5 meaningful ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day (2024)

Easy, thoughtful ways to say you care.

Love it or hate it, Valentine’s day will soon be upon us. Like many, maybe you’re feeling the pressure already.

Whilst there’s nothing wrong with buying flowers, chocolates or jewellery for your loved one, it is important to remember what the day is all about: love and togetherness. Here are our top 5 meaningful ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Start the day with an old-fashioned love letter

Cards are lovely to wake up to, but a letter makes it extra special. Think back over the past year and pick three things your significant other did that made you feel loved and cared for and tell them how you really felt at the time.

Switch your morning roles around

If your partner is usually the one who makes you a cup of tea and preps breakfast, change things around by doing it for them instead. It’s a simple way to put a smile on their face and make them feel special.

Meet your partner after work for a stroll or bike ride home

Since Valentine’s Day falls on a Friday this year if you haven’t taken the day off and both of you are working, why not meet somewhere and walk or ride home together - weather permitting! Just doing something you don’t do daily will make it memorable. Take the scenic route and catch up on your day whilst enjoying the evening light.

Cook a meal together or take advantage of a meal deal

Cook a two or three-course meal with your partner or recreate the meal you had on your first date. If you set the right tone with music and lights it could be much more romantic than going out to eat in a busy restaurant. BBC Good Food has some excellent ideasand menus to choose from, plus tips and tricks to get it right.

Or, if you don’t fancy cooking, you canchoose from variety of Valentine’s Day meal deals. Almost every big supermarket is doing one, ranging from £10 to £20 for two people it’s excellent value.
