Party Ideas | Party Printables Blog: Easy DIY Dinosaur Party Ideas and Recipes (2024)

Next week I'll be sharing the dinosaur cake recipe I created for a brand partnership I recently worked on.

So for today, I'm sharing the full party with all the fun desserts, simple decorations and DIY details that are super easy to pull off for a dinosaur birthday party at home!

This dinosaur party theme is prefect for any age group, and the ideal set up for a low-key birthday party at home!

Easy DIY Dinosaur Birthday Party Ideas and Recipes

The inspiration for this birthday party came from the dinosaur themed baking utensils, cake pans, edible decorations and a range of cookware and ingredients from the brand's new catalogue, including that cool dinosaur piñata!

The choice of desserts served at this party was also influenced by the equipment and ingredients provided by the brand.

For instance, I decided to make 2 cakes for this party set up, one tiered cake, and one a dinosaur shaped cake that would be ideal for a 1st birthday smash cake!

Apart from the two cakes, I also made dinosaur shaped jelly, chocolate dinosaur eggs, dinosaur cupcakes and dinosaur sugar cookies.

DIY Dinosaur Party Decorations

In terms of decorations, the dinosaur piñata provided most of the décor and acted as a great party backdrop too!

The fact that it also doubles as a party activity for the kids is a huge bonus!

To complement the piñata, I simply hung a bunch of balloons and added some palm leaves and fronds to the balloon arrangement. You can see how I make my balloon garlands here.

It was the easiest and quickest party décor set I've ever styled!

To cover my table, I used a piece of green turf as a tablecloth and voila!

DIY Tired Dinosaur Birthday Cake

The tiered dinosaur cake is great for using the cake collar and the sugar paste fondant molds, as well as the brand's chocolate drip that comes ready to use in a handy squirt bottle!

This drip is such a life saver! If you're a cake baker like me, you know how the drip can make or break a finished cake. And this product comes ready to be used, at the perfect consistency and inside its own squirt bottle (you just heat it in the microwave), which saves a ton of time and energy.

It literally was the icing on my cake! 😁

This type of tiered cake can seem daunting, but its not that big of a deal because you can use mostly sugar paste fondant to decorate it, which is basically like using modelling clay, but in edible form!

To finish off this cake I added the brand's super cute dinosaur birthday candles on top.

DIY Dinosaur Shaped Cake

For the detailed recipe for this dinosaur shaped birthday cake, please see last week's posts here.

This cake was super easy to decorate and super fun too! It would make a great first birthday smash cake too!

DIY Gummy Dinosaur Jelly

It was my husband suggested making jellies with these dinosaur shaped cake molds, since he loves jelly! And because we already had 2 cakes planned, this seemed ideal, super fun and easy too!

For the jelly itself, I used lemon flavored jelly and added a couple of drops of green food coloring. But if you can find a jelly that is already green, then you can also use that.

The secret here is to make the jelly super concentrated. I used 1 packet of 85g cubed jelly (you can use powder too) to 1/3 cup of boiling water. Then I placed the mixture in the microwave for about 30 seconds on high to help fully dissolve the gelatin.

To ensure your jelly comes out perfectly, be sure to also lightly grease the cake molds. Even if they are silicone and don't normally require greasing, I decided to do that.

But use either a cooking spray or flavorless vegetable oil and not butter, otherwise you might get a weird coating on your jelly.

I used a pastry brush with vegetable oil and then removed the excess oil with a paper towel.

Then simply let your jelly set in the fridge overnight to set. The result is a delicious, gummy bear texture for the jelly that the kids (and my husband) loved!

DIY Dinosaur Cupcakes

The cupcakes were basically left over batter and frosting from the dinosaur shaped cake that I shared last week.

You can find the chocolatecupcake recipe here.

I then baked the cupcakes in paper cups and decorated the top with the green frosting. to finish it off, I added the brand's dinosaur sugar sprinkles and edible sugar decorations on top.

I displayed these on a wood slice, in-keeping with the whole dinosaur party vibe

DIY Dinosaur Sugar Cookies

One of my favorite and easiest products from the brand was this cookie decorating kit!

This cookie kit comes with a dinosaur cookie cutter and a dinosaur printed sugar paste sheet of ready-rolled fondant that's totally edible and that you can you use to decorate the baked cookies.

Do you realize what this means? No more hours and hours making royal icing to frost your cookies! 🥰

You simply bake your cookies as normal (I have a great recipe here), then wait until they cool down and top it with your sugar paste fondant.

If your cookies shrink a little after baking, no biggie! I simply took a pair of kitchen scissors and cut around the printed dinosaurs a little smaller.

I displayed these on a wood slice, in-keeping with the whole dinosaur party vibe.

DIY Chocolate Dinosaur Eggs

For the chocolate eggs, I used the brand's mold and white chocolate.

When they were set, I painted the eggs using a little green food coloring and added details in black food coloring using a very fine paint brush.

I served these inside mini paper cases, and displayed them in a faux nest to add more fun to my table décor.

Hope you like the ideas and feel inspired to have a go! If you do, tag me on social media @BirdsParty so I can see and share your creativity! 😍
