If you've lost your remote, you can still turn on your Roku TV using the TV's power button. The Power button is well-hidden, but once you find it, it's easy! You can also use the Roku mobile app on your Android, iPhone, or iPad to turn on your Roku TV without the remote, or try a connected HDMI-CEC device like a gaming console.
Things You Should Know
- To turn on your Roku TV without the remote, you'll need to use the power button. It can be tricky to find, but it's there.
- The Power button is either below the screen on the bottom edge, on the left or right side panel, or the back of the TV.
- You can use the Roku mobile app to control your TV or use an HDMI-CEC device like a gaming console to turn it on or off.

Can't find the Power button on your TV? Even if you don't see it, your Roku TV does have a power button, and that location varies by model. Once you find it, it'll be easy to turn on your Roku TV without the remote. Once you find the Power button, press it to turn on your TV. If that doesn't work, press and hold it for a few seconds.
- The bottom edge of your TV: Many Roku TVs, including most TCL and Westinghouse models, have hidden power buttons on the bottom edge of the TV. Feel around for the button below the manufacturer's logo at the center. If it's not at the center, it could be at the bottom-left or bottom-right edge.[1]
- The left side of the TV: Many Roku TV models have power buttons on the left edge of the TV, just behind the display. It may be near the middle of the left edge or down toward the bottom.
- The right side of the TV: If the Power button isn't in the other locations, it'll be on the right edge.
- The back panel of the TV: On some TVs, especially older models, the power button is on the back side of the TV, typically near where you plug in the cables.
- If your Roku TV has a power button at this location and you've mounted it on the wall, you'll need to unmount it to turn it on.

Install the Roku app on your smartphone or tablet. If you can't find your Roku TV remote or it's not working, you can use the Roku app on your Android, iPhone, or iPad to control your TV in the meantime.
- This method requires your Roku TV and your phone or tablet to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. It won't work if your Roku TV is connected to the internet with an ethernet cable.
- You can use the Roku mobile app to turn on your TV and navigate menus to watch movies and shows.
- If your Roku TV isn't on Wi-Fi, see this guide to learn how to connect to Wi-Fi without a remote.
2
Open the Roku app and sign in. The first time you open the app, you'll be prompted to log in with your Roku account. Follow the on-screen instructions to do so.
- If you're not prompted to sign in, tap the profile icon at the top-right to bring up the prompt.[2]
3
Tap Devices and select your Roku TV. As long as the TV is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your phone or tablet, it will show up as an option.
- If your Roku TV doesn't appear in the Devices list, press the power button on the TV to turn it on first. Also, if your phone is connected to a VPN, disconnect from it.[3]
4
Tap Remote at the bottom to use the app as a remote. You can now turn your Roku TV on and off, launch channels, pause, fast forward, and rewind, just like your Roku remote.

1
Connect a gaming console or streaming device to your Roku TV's HDMI-CEC port. If you have a gaming system like an Xbox One or a PlayStation 5 or a streaming device like Chromecast or Amazon Firestick, connect it to the HDMI-CES port on the back of your Roku TV. Once connected, turning on your gaming console will also turn on your Roku TV.[4]
- Not all Roku TVs support HDMI-CEC.
- If you haven't enabled HDMI-CEC on your Roku TV, this method may not work.
2
Turn on the console or streaming device. When the HDMI-CEC compatible device is connected, turning it on using its own power button or remote will also turn on your Roku TV. You can then control your TV using the Roku app.
