Classroom Valentine’s Day Party Games

Amp up the learning with a few Valentine’s Day literacy and math activities. Bingo is a great way to review letters, sounds, numbers, math facts, CVC words, rhyming, as well as sight words, during your classroom Valentine’s Day party. For maximum engagement, toss in some festive bingo markers!

During math time, the students can use candy hearts as manipulatives for counting, graphing and measuring. They will roll a die and count that many pieces of candy.

For a more challenging version, they can roll a plus/minus die and add or remove that many candies.

This “Heart Stack” challenge is always a hit! The kiddos can stack and graph how many hearts tall they can make a tower. To make stacking the hearts a bit more challenging, have the students use one hand.

To practice estimation, as well as area, you can have the students estimate how many candy hearts will fit inside different sized hearts when they complete the “You Fill My Heart with Love” challenge.

The key to a successful classroom party is keeping the little ones moving. This “Lovely Charades” game is a great heart healthy activity to include at your classroom Valentine’s Day party. The students will choose a card and act out that motion. As a brain break, have the entire class complete that motion once they have correctly guessed the animal.

Valentine’s Day Crafts

I always make time for a craft or two during our classroom Valentine’s Day party. Crafts serve so many important purposes. They help build fine motor control, scissor skills, visual-spatial relationships, creativity, as well as the ability to listen to and follow directions.

This love monster glyph is a fun way to get to know your students a little bit more during Valentine’s Day.

One of my favorite Valentine’s Day crafts are these mosaic hearts made from cut up foam pieces. Add a magnet strip to the back, so that the kiddos’ loved ones can hang it on the refrigerator.

Directed Drawings

An easy addition to your classroom Valentine’s Day party are directed drawings. Your students could draw a love monster or love bug. When they are finished, they can color or paint their creation.

Valentine’s Day Science Experiments

Poppin’ Love Potion Punch is my all time favorite Valentine’s Day science experiment. It erupts when you add the magic ingredients! Plus, it’s super yummy!

Love is in the air with this Cupid science experiment. Blow up a white balloon and pinch the end closed with a binder clip. Attach some wings and draw a Cupid face on the balloon. Secure a straw to the back of the balloon using tape. Thread a good 15 feet of string through the straw. Tie the ends of the string to two chairs. Slide the chairs apart so the string is taut. Remove the binder clip, and watch Cupid fly through the air!

Valentine’s Day Play Dough Kits

Let your little one’s creativity run wild, as they strengthen their fine motor skills using these Valentine’s Day play dough mats. To encourage open-ended, sensory play, fill the individual play dough kits with various loose parts, including pipe cleaners, pom poms, pony beads, paper straws, buttons, foam hearts and googly eyes. Your kiddos can build a love monster, decorate a heart cookie and make a love bug while using the supplies in the kit. At the end of the day, they can take their baggies home… a little Valentine’s Day gift from you!

At the end of our classroom Valentine’s Day party, I have my students watch a short movie. This gives me a chance to clean up and pack away all of the party supplies and games for next year.

Valentine’s Day Snack

During our Valentine’s Day classroom party, the students will make a heart-shaped mouse cookie. While we are watching the movie, we’ll eat our cookies and other Valentine’s Day snacks.
