2024 MCCAA Softball Awards Announced (2024)

LANSING – TheMichigan Community College Athletic Association releases the 2024 MCCAA softball awards, highlighted by Mott and Lansing community colleges sweeping major individual awards in the Eastern and Western conferences, respectively.

For Mott,Terry Warner earns coach of the year after leading the Bears to a 25-5 conference record and an Eastern Conference crown as part of an overall 35-13 record. Maggie Boehm is selected both thePlayer and Freshman of the Year.

Marc Kibby coached Lansing to a 27-3 Western mark and conference title en route to a 41-17 record overall. Leading the way for the Stars were Western Player of the Year Jenna Morse and Freshman of the Year Kyra Shadduck.

Pacing the Northern Conference awards wasAlexis Mielke ofMid Michigan College who was named both the Player and Freshman of the Year. The Coach of the Year is David Veihl from Muskegon Community College after guiding the squad to a 19-1 conference-winning ledger (28-12); last season, the Jayhawks 11-14 and 11-18, respectively.

The co-head coaches of the year are Katie Scheuer, Lake Michigan College; and Jim Beard, Macomb Community College, by virtue of taking their squads to the national championships as the MCCAA did not declare an overall league champion this spring.Scheuer piloted the Red Hawks (30-17 overall, 20-10 MCCAA Western) to theGreat Lakes District B Championship and a berth to theNJCAA Division II World Series in Duncan, S.C., where they picked up a tournament win againstFort Scott Community College. Beard steered the Monarchs (31-15, 23-7 MCCAA Eastern) to a 4-0 record in the Great Lakes District A tournament win and an appearance in the NJCAA Division II World Series atSpartanburg, S.C.
